Baseball Top 5 Players so far
I am finished with College Basketball, but I just wanted to say that Louisville deserved to win the title more than any other team.
I may do some posts on NBA as it gets deep into the playoffs, but I have moved into baseball for now.
Top 5 MLB Players so far
1. Justin Upton
AVG | R | HR | RBI | SB |
---|---|---|---|---|
.302 | 20 | 12 | 18 | 3 |
Case: Justin Upton has 12 HRs already. He only has to get 2 more in the last 3 games to tie the record for most in April. Guess who are the 2 people who got 12. Albert Pujols (2006) and Alex Rodriguez (2007). Pretty good company, huh? Upton has also scored 20 runs and has stole 3 bases, knocking in 18 runs in the process. His batting average is still above .300, but I don't know how long it will stay there.
My projected stats: .292, 103 runs, 38 HR, 97 RBI, 21 SB
Verdict: He will be a star and contend for the MVP voting, possibly winning it, but with these stats, will likely get Top 3.
2. Bryce Harper
AVG | R | HR | RBI | SB |
---|---|---|---|---|
.373 | 17 | 9 | 18 | 1 |
Case: Bryce Harper has played great thus far. He has 17 runs and 18 RBIs, as well as a second in the majors 9 HRs. But the most impressive thing about Harper so far has been his average. He is hitting .373, and I think he will stay close to that number for a lot or maybe even all of the season. You never know, based on the hype and his September last year, he could have an unreal season. But I think he will not, and will merely have a MVP Top 5 Finish. (MERELY??!!)
My Projected Stats: .329, 94 runs, 36 HRs, 109 RBIs, 19 SBs
Verdict: He will have a fantastic year and come in Top 3 in the MVP voting. He will contend with Upton for the award.
3. Chris Davis
AVG | R | HR | RBI | SB |
---|---|---|---|---|
.346 | 15 | 8 | 25 | 0 |
Case: Davis has played great so far this season. The HRs and the RBIs are great, but could have been predicted. The real surprise so far has been his .346 AVG. I don't know if it will stay this way, but it certainly might. The question right now with Davis is "Will he drop off?". We will find out in the upcoming month.
My Projected Stats: .276, 71 runs, 34 HRs, 94 RBIs, 2 SBs.
Verdict: Davis will be a top 5 first baseman and he may receive some MVP votes. But after his hot start, he will regress significantly.
4. Matt Moore
W-L | SV | K | ERA | WHIP |
---|---|---|---|---|
5-0 | 0 | 38 | 1.13 | 0.88 |
Case: Matt Moore was a very hyped prospect, but had a disappointing rookie season last year. This year, he is off to a very hot start. He is 5-0 and has struck out 38 batters. His ERA is only 1.13. He has so much talent and really has a great arm. I don't think that he will drop off too much, and even if he does, he will still have good stats.
My Projected Stats: 17-6, 196 K, 2.43 ERA, 1.08 WHIP
Verdict: Moore will be a Cy Young candidate and will be the next star Rays arm.
5. Clay Buchholz
W-L | SV | K | ERA | WHIP |
---|---|---|---|---|
5-0 | 0 | 39 | 1.19 | 1.01 |
Case: Buchholz has had an unbelievable year so far, and like Moore, he is a former top prospect. He did not have a very good year last year but this year has done a lot better. My only concern is that his WHIP is almost as high as his ERA. He has stranded a lot of baserunners, and gotten pretty lucky so far this season. We will soon see if his luck holds up.
My Projected Stats: 15-8 184 K, 3.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP
Verdict: Buchholz will regress, but will still have a great season. He will not be a legitimate Cy Young candidate, but if the Red Sox continue to do well, he will get votes.
