A couple questions

College basketball truly began this past weekend with the first weekend of conference play.  Oregon lost its first game of the season to number 24 Colorado.  Michigan St took down Indiana.  Undefeated Wisconsin came back to beat ranked Iowa after Fran McCaffery was ejected.   Kansas lost at home to a very talented 21st ranked San Diego St team.  It was an exciting weekend and showed me why college basketball is so great.  Here is a video of the college basketball highlights since 2010.

I am going to answer two big questions for this post.

Question 1:
Duke, Kansas, North Carolina and Indiana are four of the best programs in the country.  Recently, they haven't done very well.  All four of these programs are not in the top 15 of this week's poll, and have struggled lately.  Two are unranked.  Will this be a trend for the rest of the year or is this just a slow start?

In my opinion, the answer is different for all of these teams.  I think that North Carolina is too up and down to get a high seed in the tournament.  They could pull off a couple big wins in the tournament, but are too inconsistent for a run past the sweet 16.  I love their PG Marcus Paige, and they have tons of talent.  But, the losses are awful, and if this trend continues, they could have an early exit in the tourney

Kansas and Duke both have tons of talent, and they just have to put it together.  I think that by the end of the year, they will be a 2 or 3 seed in the tournament.

Indiana hasn't started the season well, but they are young and inexperienced, just like Duke and Kansas, and should finish well.

Question 2:
Is Wichita St, now ranked number 6, a top 5 or 6 team in the country?

Although I think Wichita St is great, and they have three very good players (Fred Van Vleet, Cleanthony Early, and Ron Baker), they are not elite, and not a top 5 or 6 team.  They just haven't proved themselves against any good teams yet.  They can't be an elite team in the category with teams Wisconsin, Michigan St, and Syracuse (notice I left off Arizona) until they play a good team, which they might not until the tournament with their extremely weak conference.
